Moving Through Matter — metaphors, tactics, and imaginaries of space
Moving Through Matter brings together Building Beyond Fellows from across Africa to explore art, space, and community.

Moving Through Matter: metaphors, tactics, and imaginaries of space brings together twelve Building Beyond Fellows from across Africa for an evening of reflection and exchange at the Rijksakademie. Through art, architecture, and community practice, the Fellows explore new ways of understanding how space shapes and is shaped by social and environmental change.
On Friday, 17 October, Cycle 4 of the Fellows Award Building Beyond welcomes us at Rijksakademie from 16:30 (CET) for a dynamic public programme, "Moving Through Matter — metaphors, tactics, and imaginaries of space".

"Moving Through Matter" brings together the twelve Cycle 4 Building Beyond Fellows, uniting diverse voices from across the African continent at the intersection of art, space, and community. Through imaginaries and critical interventions, the Fellows present alternative tools, methods that respond to the shifting socio-political and environmental dynamics of our built environments.
This gathering provides a peek into the wider world of Building Beyond, a constellation between architecture, design, photography, sound, and performance. It is a platform where Fellows engage to hold space for public life, community, and creativity, converging in response to narratives of urbanism and spatial development.
Guided and mentored by spatial experts Ola Hassanain, Hicham Bouzid, and Fatima Bintou Rassoul Sy, the Fellows have spent the past year engaging on dynamics in their local context necessitate and inspire how art is made and shared in urban life.
Special thanks to the Rijksakademie for making this event possible. Building Beyond is organised in collaboration with Creative Industries Fund.
