Artist Talk: Worldbuilding in West African Photography
Join us to explore how these artists construct layered visual worlds that move between reality and speculation, shaping representations of West African identities through image-making.

We invite you to the Artist Talk: “Worldbuilding in West African Photography” with Kwasi Darko (Ghana) and Victor Adéwálé (Nigeria), on Thursday, 30 April, from 17:00 to 18:30 at Domo.
Both are photographers known for their approaches to worldbuilding in West Africa. Building Beyond Fellow Kwasi Darko explores othered identities and Blackness through experimental and digital practices, while Seed Awardee and Building Beyond Fellow Victor Adéwálé centres everyday narratives and contemporary Nigerian realities.
Join us to explore how these artists construct layered visual worlds that move between reality and speculation, shaping representations of West African identities through image-making. The conversation will touch on aesthetics of mobility and belonging, and the ethical frameworks that guide their practices—how they work with communities with care, navigate co-authorship, and remain accountable to the stories they tell.
